A native of Northern Virginia, Sandra del Cid-Davies was appointed Third Flute/Piccolo with the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra/Washington National Opera in January 2023. Prior to joining the KCOHO, Sandra was the piccoloist for The Florida Orchestra (2017 - 2023) and served as second flute/piccolo with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra (2008 - 2017). She has performed with numerous orchestras including the National Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra, Richmond Symphony, and St. Pete Opera.
As an educator, Sandra enjoys teaching privately and is a former adjunct professor of flute at Rollins College and Southeastern University. She has presented masterclasses and has been actively involved with the National Flute Association, Florida Flute Association, and the Flute Society of Washington as an adjudicator, lecturer, and performer including the world premiere of Augusta Reed Thomas’s Dawn Birds for solo piccolo and crotales in 2018.
Sandra also enjoys early music and has performed on baroque flute and recorder with the Washington Bach Consort, National Cathedral Baroque Orchestra, Bach Sinfonia, and St. Pete Baroque.
Sandra received her BM from Peabody Conservatory and MM from Northwestern University in flute performance. Her principal teachers include Elizabeth Rowe, Walfrid Kujala, Richard Graef, Mark Sparks, Laurie Sokoloff, Emily Skala, Alice Weinreb, Lois Herbine, Brian Gordon, Rita Brockway, Gwyn Roberts (recorder), and Colin St. Martin (traverso).
